About this course
This internationally recognised qualification provides a platform for students who are seeking to work in Applied Healthcare roles in primary, secondary and tertiary, diagnostic and therapeutic settings such as rehabilitation, speech and language, dietetics, community diagnostics and operating theatre technical roles.
The programme is developed to work closely with sector employers including the NHS trusts to provide experiential learning that supports and strengthens the theory learning.
**Level 4 (Year 1)
Unit 1: Law, policy and ethical practice (15 Credits)**
Build working knowledge of core underpinning legal principles and perspectives to national and international law and key topics in health and care practice. Including legal and policy framework relating to health and care practice in different settings.
**Unit 2: Demonstrating professional principles and values in health and social care practices (30 Credits)**
Through compilation of a practice learning assessment and development portfolio students will evidence learning and development against essential core elements of professional development. This module is run in conjunction with work placement.
**Unit 3: Supporting the individual journey through integrated health and social care (15 Credits)**
Studying the importance of professional communication and coordination of care, learning how to work effectively to meet the needs of individuals and multidisciplinary teams.
**Unit 4: Fundamentals of evidence-based practice (15 Credits)**
This module supports students to develop research skills that they can apply to professional and quality improvement within healthcare settings and links closely to work placement learning.
**Unit 5: Principles of health education (15 Credits)**
This module supports you to explore health education and the wider health and wellbeing of individuals. Exploring health inequalities and was to address these challenges.
**Unit 7: Effective healthcare practice using maths (15 Credits)**
This practical applied module helps student to become confident and competent with using math within healthcare practices. These skills being essential when working within the sector help prepare students for work.
**Unit 9: Applied anatomy and physiology (15 Credits)**
Developing background knowledge and understanding of the healthy human body and how it works supports students to gain the skills to enable them to contribute to improved care and outcomes for individuals with complex conditions.

• Unit 8: Innovation and improvement through participatory action research (30 Credits)
Developing from level 4 research, the aim of the unit is to develop student knowledge of Action Research and plan for a specific area of study relating to chosen area of practice.
• Unit 9: Reflective approaches in implementing person-centred practice (15 Credits)
Builds on learning from unit 2, providing students with opportunity to further develop their skills as a reflective practitioner. Bringing together classroom and real work knowledge to demonstrate their professional development.
• Unit 10: Planning care in practice (15 Credits)
Students will examine the current models and methods of assessment and approaches that are designed to develop effective care strategies. Students will also learn how to effectively review practice-based learning related to theoretical perspectives.
• Unit 11: Meeting the needs of individuals with long-term health conditions (15 Credits)
Designed to enable students to consider the needs of individual with long term health conditions and to develop their skills in the holistic assessment of needs to supports personalised care for individuals.
• Unit 12: Team and individual leadership: mentoring and coaching others (15 Credits)
Develops understanding of the principles and theories of leadership, coaching an mentorship and their application in the context of healthcare. The focus is for students to develop their skills in contributing to supporting personal development of others.
• Unit 13: End of life care planning and support (15 Credits)
Supports students to develop knowledge and learn about the impact of death and care up to and after loss. Developing professional skills to develop awareness of impact and sources of support and self-care.
• Unit 26: Global Health and Wellbeing (15 Credits)
Explores healthcare on the global stage, developing an understand of epidemiological study of world health and improving population health.
