Distance learning (full-time) | 2025

This new course enhances the undergraduate portfolio by offering specialist provision in the area of Football Development in response to a request from The Football Association (FA) to collaborate in addressing an identified gap in education provision in Football Development. It provides an opportunity for existing and aspiring football industry professionals to develop critical understanding and application of the various constituent components of football development at grassroots and elite levels in a variety of industry contexts.

The curriculum for this ground-breaking course has been developed by a team of specialists and experienced academic staff, working in collaboration with experts from the Grassroots Football Division within the FA. These individuals bring a wealth of practical experience, having worked extensively in the field as industry specialists.

Staff expertise will be used to develop a curriculum that examines topics including, but not limited to: principles of football development; applied football development; the business of grassroots football; Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and safeguarding in football, a work placement and research in industry. The curriculum will be enhanced via the involvement of external speakers and content contributors from the wider football industry.

Students will be given the opportunity to develop their knowledge and to demonstrate their understanding through a curriculum and assessment strategy that is built on real-world scenarios, case studies and a work placement.

Modules

All six modules are 20 credits in value and are core modules. They are: Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Safeguarding in Football Development; Understanding the Business of Football Development; Strategic Football Development (instead of Applied Football Development); Monitoring, Evaluation and Research in Football Development; and Professional Practice in Football Development (with a placement in a County Football Association or similar football organisation).

Assessment methods

A range of assessment methods are used across the modules: written assignment; timed online case study examination; online discussion board; pair presentation; in-tray case study exercise; autobiography; group presentation (live brief); report; mentor observation; and professional practice portfolio.

This information is from the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), for undergraduate students only.

You can use this to get an idea of who you might share a lecture with and how they progressed in this subject, here. It's also worth comparing typical A-level subjects and grades students achieved with the current course entry requirements; similarities or differences here could indicate how flexible (or not) a university might be.

Post-six month graduation stats:

This is from the Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education Survey, based on responses from graduates who studied the same subject area here.

It offers a snapshot of what grads went on to do six months later, what they were earning on average, and whether they felt their degree helped them obtain a 'graduate role'. We calculate a mean rating to indicate if this is high, medium or low compared to other universities.

The Longitudinal Educational Outcomes dataset combines HRMC earnings data with student records from the Higher Education Statistics Agency.

While there are lots of factors at play when it comes to your future earnings, use this as a rough timeline of what graduates in this subject area were earning on average one, three and five years later. Can you see a steady increase in salary, or did grads need some experience under their belt before seeing a nice bump up in their pay packet?
